This cake was not your average birthday cake.
Last year, I had the opportunity to be a “sugar angel” for Jaylah’s family through Icing Smiles. I got to create Jaylah’s “dream cake” and deliver it to her birthday party where I met her and her family. It was an incredible experience. Her grandparents took such special care of Jaylah and there were so many people there to support them and love on them. You can see the blog post here.
Sadly, Jaylah passed away several months later, losing her battle with Krabbe Disease, a rare, often fatal, disorder that affects the nervous system.
So this year for Jaylah’s birthday, her family decided to celebrate her life with an “in memory of” birthday party (she would have been 3 this year). I was so honored to make another cake for the family. Working with an “angel” theme, I put together a pretty and sweet cake for the celebration.
A sweet little sugar angel topper to resemble Jaylah…
Cascading sugar flowers and hearts gave it a feminine touch and made me think of the love that I know Jaylah is sending down from heaven (:
Happy 3rd birthday, Jaylah! Your family misses and loves you very much.
Thank you to Icing Smiles for introducing this relationship and to Jaylah’s family for letting me be a small part of this celebration (:
